One of Etowah’s newest teachers, Rachel Bourne, has had a fervent passion for literature for as long as she can remember.

“Literature can change your outlook on life,” Bourne said.

After graduating from Kennesaw State University with a 4.0, Bourne started teaching literature at Osborne High School, in Cobb County, and is now in her fourth year of teaching.

“[I have] wanted to be a teacher since middle school,”Bourne said.

She then moved to Woodstock to continue her career at Etowah.

“I moved here because I like the area. It is good place to start a family,” Bourne said.

Bourne is infatuated with the Harry Potter series, and used to stand in long lines just to get the latest book, but the novel she is truly in love with is  F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby.”

“Every time you read it, you get a new experience,” Bourne said.

Bourne coaches competitive cheer alongside Marissa Jasso. She was a cheerleader in high school, and has enjoyed the sport ever since.
