John Currys fresh start

Tucked away, hidden in a hallway of Etowah High school is a new teacher, John Curry. It is fitting that this private man is in a classroom that most students do not even know exists. Curry is an APEX teacher that challenges and supports each student’s academics by providing developing skills.

“Teaching has always been a strong passion of mine,” Curry said.

Curry grew up in Pennsylvania and graduated from Lycoming College. He majored in arts, history, and economics, and still enjoys them.

Mutual friends, in college, introduced Curry to the love of his life. Now they have one son, who enjoys hiking and playing football with them every weekend.

“My family, music, and summer are what makes me happiest,” Curry said.

Curry came to Etowah because of the school’s good reputation. When he started teaching in 2002, he realized he liked teaching APEX because he enjoys supporting students in recovering credit for each individual subject. Throughout the process, Curry soon realized that his favorite subject to help students is economics, since it comes easy to him.

“I feel it’s a difficult subject, and I can explain it well,” Curry said.

Etowah’s new APEX teacher is ready for his new adventure and what this year will bring.
