Etowah High School recently welcomed a new math teacher, Alexandria Wiley.
“Teaching is rewarding,” Wiley said.
Her own math teacher junior year is who inspired Wiley to consider math as a career. Her senior year she took Calculus and found that she really enjoyed the class and the teacher.
Wiley majored in math education at Kennesaw State University and is now qualified to teach all math classes except for AP.
“I know math is like the worst subject ever, so I try to shed some light on it,” Wiley said.
She student-taught in Cobb County at both McCleskey Middle School, and her alma mater, MacEachern High School where she taught a variety of math classes.
“I’ve learned more from Mrs. Wiley in half a year than I have learned from the rest of my other teachers in a full year,” John Sallee, freshmen, said.
At Etowah, Wiley teaches tenth grade Geometry and ninth grade Algebra.
“I love Etowah. The students try really hard, and want to do their best, and they are respectful. They make coming to school a lot easier,” Wiley said.
Wiley not only appreciates her students but her coworkers for being so supportive and helpful.
“When students show their appreciation, that’s when I know I chose the right job,” Wiley said.
Wiley enjoys being an Eagle and is happy to do her job in the environment Etowah provides her.
