As fall and winter sports come to an end, spring sports teams are beginning to condition and prepare for their upcoming seasons. Both baseball teams, varsity and JV, are scouting the talent for the upcoming season through tryouts.

“I think we will be really good this year. We have a majority of our starters returning this year, and I think we will be able to make another good run in the playoffs,” Cole Ellis, junior, said.

Varsity baseball head coach Greg Robinson is going on his 12th year coaching Etowah’s team. After making it to the Elite 8 last year, he has high expectations for the new season.

“Our baseball program schedules 4-on-1 training sessions throughout the fall to instruct and evaluate our potential players.  The weather is so much better in the fall and allows us to get to know the young prospects entering Etowah and work with our returners,” Robinson said.

The team’s main goal this season is to increase its strength. Though many players have unique individual skills, the team still plans to keep up the hard work and dedication to benefit in the long run.

“As of now, I believe we have a very good chance of having a successful season. We will have to work extremely hard not only in practice but off the field, too, putting in work on our own to really stand out from everyone else,” Michael Sharman, senior, said.

Not only does the team want to work toward winning and competing, but players also want to build a strong team bond.

“I am looking forward to this season because of how much closer I have gotten with all of my teammates this past fall and just to have fun playing with them,” Davis Newman, sophomore, said.

Next week, the preseason begins and the boys will be practicing regularly until the end of season in preparation for region and playoff games.

“We are looking forward to competing for a Region Championship and making another deep run in the State AAAAAAA playoffs,” Robinson said.

The team continues to look forward to playing and competing in the playoffs once again.
