Kids are growing up too fast

The age old saying “You’re growing up too fast!” is something almost every child hears and as Generation Y grows older, the years seem to zoom by faster than usual. At a young age, children want to be older, whether they want to be a “big kid” or they want to skip straight to being an adult. People realize the older they are, the more freedom they have. For example, if a five-year-old wants a cookie before dinner, his mother would likely decline the request. So, the child yearns to be older, because he knows that if he were older he would be able to have the cookie, and make his own rules. The tot may even claim he will always eat dessert before dinner when he becomes an adult.

While many children want to grow up fast to get what they want, some teenagers disregard their parents’ requests and decide that they are going to do what they want, when they want. This makes it more difficult to tell what age some teens are by the way they act or dress. One would probably think that this is not a big deal, but if someone cannot tell the difference between a 14-year-old and an 18-year-old, then there is a problem. Rapper Tyga, 26, caused controversy when he dated Kylie Jenner, 18, after having a “fling” with her months before.

Some are say it is no big deal, it is only an eight year difference. Here is a kicker: Tyga also pursued a 14-year-old, a 12 year difference. Aside from the fact that a man is trying to pick-up an underage girl, the problem is these girls do not look their age. They appear in their twenties because their parents let them wear the amount of make-up that an Academy Award nominee would wear to the Red Carpet. A recent meme on Facebook showed a picture from the ‘90’s of middle school girls and a selfie of middle school girls today. The .90’s photo shows girls with modest hair, no make-up, tees and shorts, eating popsicles sitting on a fence. The selfie from today is much different. The girls have on skimpy clothing, tons of make-up, and a posing provocatively in a bathroom mirror.

That is just an example; the problem with children trying to grow up too fast is that it causes confusion and in turns it causes problems.
