Colorful marshmallows shaped like chicks. Peeps, once a springtime staple, are sold year-round for those with a sweet tooth for marshmallows.

“[I like Peeps because] they are fluffy,” Mohamed Salame, senior, said.

When Peeps popped up in 1953, the Rodda Candy Company first created its original yellow chicks. Thirty years later, Peeps added new colors eventually adding new shapes.  Peeps now come in multiple colors and shapes that include: pumpkins, ghosts, bunnies, Christmas trees, gingerbread men, hearts, Easter Eggs, and crosses.

“I like how the Peeps are colorful and are different shapes,” Christen Ellenberg, freshman, said.
As with anything, there are always those who dislike the product.

“Peeps are the most disgusting thing I have ever eaten. They are wannabe marshmallows, and they are way too sweet,” Miya Anderson, freshman, said.

While there are many reasons people dislike the popular marshmallow candy, the most common is texture and sweetness.

“Peeps are too processed for my liking, and the sugar on the outside makes it worse,” Madeline Fisher, sophomore, said.

Haters are going to hate, but for now, Peeps are here to stay.
