Lacrosse girls seek play-offs

The girls Varsity Lacrosse team has started their season out with a 5-5 record. The girls played games February 23 and 25 and March 1, 3, 9, 12, 14 and 16.

Andrew Osbourne, Etowah literature teacher, is the varsity coach and Victoria Brown, Etowah math teacher, is the junior varsity coach.

“I believe as a coach that the most important aspect of a player is character. Since we compete in such a team sport, it’s essential that the players have the character to build a positive and competitive team culture,” Osbourne said.

There are 21 girls on the team, five seniors, five juniors, six sophomores and five freshmen. Jaclyn Regnery, Beth Haynes, Rachel Kraus and Meaghan Freire are all seniors. Captains include, are Jaclyn Regnery, Beth Haynes and Rachel Kraus.

Osbourne said the team has very specifc goals. “They include, making play-offs, beating all Cherokee County Teams, setting a school record in wins, advancing in the State Play-off Tournament, growing as a team,” Osbourne said

Starters are Kate Graner, Kate Casagrande, Kayla Head and Sarah Trotta for attack, Beth Haynes, Jaclyn Regnery and Kelsey Coughlin for mid and Megan Freire, Rachel Kraus, Minerva Tello, Abigail Montgomery and Pialr lewis for defense, with Micaela Zepps as their goalie.

“I think the rest of the season will go well and hopefully we will go on to the playoffs this year,” Taylor Kraus, team manager, said.
